Orthodontics like Chiropractic

If I had to pick one other form of care for the body that is similar to Chiropractic care I would choose Orthodontics. When you get braces the idea is that you want straighten  your teeth to make them healthier and work better for you.

Chiropractic Care works in a similar way to straighten and strengthen your spine to make you healthier and allow your nervous system you work optimally, so that your body may function at its best.  If you have ever had braces you know that they tend to stay on for some time, even after your teeth appear to be straight! So what do you think would happen if you took your braces off too early? You teeth would start to shift back to where they originally were!

Much like with Chiropractic Care if you stop coming or reduce care too soon your spine is going to start going back to the way it was before you started coming.  Stick with your care plan so you can be as healthy as possible.  Remember it is always less expensive to keep something working properly than to fix it in an emergency.

The Most Aggressive Jersey Goes to RecoveryDoc Athlete Bobbie Traksel

Bobbie Traksel of Team Champion Systems Pro Cycling has taken hold of the most aggressive jersey title in Oman.

This is a great success for Team Champion Systems which aims to hold onto the jersey, “we are all focused on helping Bobbie keep the combative jersey,” Friedemann said. We are certainly happy after this great victory which occurred following the training camp, where Dr. Rick Rosa worked with the team on their sports recovery, strength and endurance. “This is a great start for the season for me,” Traksel said. “These races were great preparation for me and I’m feeling very good about my new position on the Champion System team.” Dr. Rick Rosa works with a number of athletes in his sports recovery program, RecoveryDoc, these athletes include Team Jamis Sutterfield, Tony Thompson boxer, Keystone Boxing, Team Lloyd Irvin, high school, college leagues and more.

To achieve success, Dr. Rosa utilizes his signature Six Pillars of Recovery program for athletes which encompass all aspects of healing. The Six Pillars include:
  • Awareness of State
  • Rest
  • Play
  • Nutrition
  • Physical
  • Psychological
This comprehensive approach enables a more complete healing process that will prevent further injuries as well as speed up recovery between workouts. Athletes respond better when a coach is able to map out a specific workout. Similarly, doctors are able to map out and monitor specific plans that the athlete can follow. In addition, the athlete will become more aware of his/her recovery state and when he/she has fully recovered. The athlete can put that much more into his/her workouts which will ultimately improve the performance. Would you like to see Dr. Rosa in action with the team? Here is a video you’ll love taken in China, where he worked as the Champion Systems Recovery Specialist and Sports Chiropractor. Chiropractic and Headaches

We have helped a lot of people in our office with headaches.  This review of articles suggests that chiropractic care can help with migraines and headaches.  Below, is the abstract and a link to the full article.

Evidence-Based Guidelines for the Chiropractic Treatment of Adults With Headache

J Manipulative Physiol Ther. 2011 Jun;34(5):274-89.

Abstract

Objective

The purpose of this manuscript is to provide evidence-informed practice recommendations for the chiropractic treatment of headache in adults.

Methods

Systematic literature searches of controlled clinical trials published through August 2009 relevant to chiropractic practice were conducted using the databases MEDLINE; EMBASE; Allied and Complementary Medicine; the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature; Manual, Alternative, and Natural Therapy Index System; Alt HealthWatch; Index to Chiropractic Literature; and the Cochrane Library. The number, quality, and consistency of findings were considered to assign an overall strength of evidence (strong, moderate, limited, or conflicting) and to formulate practice recommendations.

Results

Twenty-one articles met inclusion criteria and were used to develop recommendations. Evidence did not exceed a moderate level. For migraine, spinal manipulation and multimodal multidisciplinary interventions including massage are recommended for management of patients with episodic or chronic migraine. For tension-type headache, spinal manipulation cannot be recommended for the management of episodic tension-type headache. A recommendation cannot be made for or against the use of spinal manipulation for patients with chronic tension-type headache. Low-load craniocervical mobilization may be beneficial for longer term management of patients with episodic or chronic tension-type headaches. For cervicogenic headache, spinal manipulation is recommended. Joint mobilization or deep neck flexor exercises may improve symptoms. There is no consistently additive benefit of combining joint mobilization and deep neck flexor exercises for patients with cervicogenic headache. Adverse events were not addressed in most clinical trials; and if they were, there were none or they were minor.

Conclusions

Evidence suggests that chiropracticcare, including spinal manipulation, improves migraine and cervicogenicheadaches. The type, frequency, dosage, and duration of treatment(s) should be based on guideline recommendations, clinical experience, and findings. Evidence for the use of spinal manipulation as an isolated intervention for patients with tension-type headache remains equivocal.

Vaccine Court awards Millions to 2 children with autism

In the first case a 10 year old boy who developed Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) after a series of vaccinations between 2003 and 2005.  They said that the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine more specifically.  His parents said that he “suffered a Vaccine Table Injury, namely, an encephalopathy” due to the MMR vaccination in December 2003.

In 2003 the boy was 2 years old and the same day as the vaccination he started shaking uncontrollably.  In January, he developed measle like symptoms.  He was diagnosed with “high fever, skin rash, tremors and lethargy.”   He also developed a fever over 104 degrees.  His parents expressed concerns of behavior problems, non-responsiveness and language loss.  Later on he was diagnosed with ASD.

A 15 month girl started having severe reactions after receiving DTaP vaccine.  She had a 105.7 temperature, started staring blankly and developing seizures.  She had developed a measle like rash.  She started doing repetitive behaviors including arm flapping and spinning.  A neurologist diagnosed her with “encephalopathy characterized by speech delay and probable global development delay.”

In both cases the children were awarded several million dollars.  In the boy’s case the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) conceded the case and paid damages.  In the little girls case they settled with the HHS.
